Will Thoughts on Memorial Day

On this Memorial Day 2009 I ponder everyone in my life who has passed on, and the impact that each of those lives have had on my own. First and foremost my thoughts dwell on my lovely daughter Carly who was taken home ten months ago this week. Her life has left the most profound impression on me. I remember the times we had together, however brief, and look forward to seeing her again.
Like everyone else, I reflect on the men and women in the armed forces who have given the greatest sacrifice for the cause of our continued freedom in this, the greatest country on earth. I only wish that those who have perished in battle may not have died in vain.

When we think of the all the blood, sweat, tears, and divine intervention that are the cornerstones of this country, I fear that we are forgetting what a glorious nation this should be. Too many in this land have set at naught the counsels of Him who is the author of liberty, and the finisher of our fate.
It has been said that “when the wicked rule, the people mourn.” Might I add my own take on this quote…”When the wicked rule, the people become complacent and forgetful.” As a nation we have accepted, and allowed too much corruption to infect a divinely appointed government, to the point where we feel there may be now way out.
There was a time in our history when righteous men and women stood tall against the tyranny and oppression, that we now accept as normal and commonplace. What would the men and women who gave their lives in the cause of our freedom think about what we have done with the nation they have given us? I believe they would ashamed and disgraced. The best way to honor them is to stand together for what is right…not just for what is popular, or can make us the most money, fame, or popularity. These things are fleeting, then what are we left with? What honor do we have?

I believe it is time for congressional reform, and term limits. The wise authors of the Constitution instituted term limits for the office of the presidency, because they did not want one man assuming too much power for too long. But over the course of history, this divine, living, breathing document has become twisted and corrupted to the point where lawmakers don’t even care what it says. They are too busy trying to rewrite what should be considered scripture, and make up their own meanings for laws to satisfy their own lustful agendas. As voters, it is incumbent upon us to put an end to such deceit, and corrosive destruction, before we are completely led gently down to hell.

Anyone who disagrees with the policies or beliefs of any Commander In Chief has the God given right to do so. That is only a part of what makes this country as great as it is. However, what many do not seem to understand, or even have knowledge about, is the fact that the president is not the only rule maker. In fact, the office of the presidency is very limited in its power and scope, and rightly so, as I mentioned before. That is why there are three branches of government…the “checks and balances” system.

However, while many in this country find fault with the Executive Branch, they fail to see the rampant disregard for constitutional law and ethics practiced by the legislature. Too many members of both houses of congress have served for so long, that they have become drunken and corrupt with power, and wield far too much influence over their constituents when the constitution clearly states that it should be the other way around. Whatever happened to “government by the people and for the people?”

It’s time for a paradigm shift. We must guide the divine destiny of this great nation back to the path upon which it was founded. We must have the courage to elect new representatives of government, instead of continuing to re-elect the same evil criminals over, and over again. Let us do away with the “party” system. We must have a God fearing government, not a God forsaking government. How can we accomplish such a monumental task? How can we overhaul the toxic system under which we have allowed ourselves to become buried? We must have the courage to vote for what is right and true, not for what is promised by our political overseers. Remember the quote from earlier? “When the wicked rule, the people mourn?” Well, it’s also been said that there is one failsafe way to know if a politician is lying, by whether or not his (or her) lips are moving.
Let us stand up for right wherever we may be. This is the only way to truly honor those who have fallen in our quest for freedom, and it is the only way to reestablish the honor within ourselves, and leave our children something worthy and pure when we have gone.
